Calculate an open shelving carcass

Panel construction

Full-height sides run the cabinet depth. Top, bottom and shelves fit between the sides at outside width minus twice the material thickness. The open Cabinet / Bookshelf Designer has no back or doors.

Equal clear shelf openings

For N shelves, clear opening = (height − 2 × thickness − N × thickness) ÷ (N + 1). At 800 × 1800 × 350 mm, thickness 18 mm and four shelves, eight physical panels produce 338.4 mm clear openings. Shelf placement uses those openings rather than equal center spacing.

Use the list for the next step

Preview physical panels, export drawings or optimize their grouped quantities. Edge assignments are separate production choices in the optimizer; generic panel sides do not imply a furniture front. Millimeter and inch inputs preserve the same construction, without hardware or back grooves.

Practical guides

Enter a measurement such as 18, 18.5, 3/4", or 18 1/2". Inch fractions use the selected inch unit or an explicit inch suffix.
