How to Calculate Edge Banding Length for Cabinet Parts

Published · Updated

Band quantity follows the exposed edges you select, not a cabinet's total area. Assign sides explicitly for each panel type, then multiply the length by quantity. Generic optimizer rows use neutral labels because the application cannot know which side will face the room.

Map sides consistently

Top and Bottom each use the entered part width. Left and Right each use its height. Add only selected sides. Rotation on a sheet changes placement, not the manufactured panel or required band.

For a 600 × 350 mm shelf, Top + Bottom gives 1200 mm per piece. Quantity four requires 4800 mm = 4.8 m. Left + Right instead gives 700 mm per piece and 2.8 m total.

Top + Bottom4.8 m
Left + Right2.8 m
All four sides7.6 m

An imperial example

A 24 × 14-inch part with Top + Bottom requires 48 inches per piece. Quantity four gives 192 inches, exactly 16 feet. A foot is exactly 304.8 mm and a meter exactly 1000 mm.

Geometry display and price unit are independent. Size parts in inches and price band per meter, or use millimeters and price per foot. CutNavi converts the physical length before multiplying by the saved unit price.

Group by the actual saved item

Visually similar bands can differ in width, supplier or your price. Keep lengths grouped by actual selected items. Bulk Replace changes band and mask; Add Edges keeps an existing compatible item.

Imported names never create library items. Map unknown values to saved bands or explicitly None and inspect the preview. An unmapped commercial label is not enough evidence for a cost calculation.

Required length and purchasing allowance

There is no hidden allowance percentage. Trimming, splices, damage and minimum purchase quantities can affect how much to buy; required panel length remains a separate figure. Make extra purchasing allowances deliberately.

For education only, a hypothetical user-entered 0.45 USD/ft applied to 16 ft gives 7.20 USD. This is not a market price or form default. Unpriced items remain unpriced, currencies remain separate, and saved runs retain the prices used at that time.

Enter a measurement such as 18, 18.5, 3/4", or 18 1/2". Inch fractions use the selected inch unit or an explicit inch suffix.
