CALCULATED RESULT

Chip load0.166667mm/tooth

THE FORMULA

Chip load = feed rate ÷ (RPM × flute count)

Feed rate in millimeters per minute divided by spindle revolutions per minute and the number of cutting flutes gives millimeters removed per tooth.

These tools calculate the values you supply. They do not recommend tool, material or machine parameters.

Check nominal feed per cutting tooth

Worked chip-load example

At 6000 mm/min, 18000 RPM and two flutes, 6000 ÷ (18000 × 2) gives 0.166666… mm/tooth. This arithmetic checks supplied settings; it does not recommend them.

Interpret the inputs

Use linear feed per minute, spindle revolutions per minute and the actual flute count. Inch feed yields inch chip load; RPM and flute count remain unchanged. Engagement and tooling guidance matter beyond this nominal relationship.

Practical guides

Enter a measurement such as 18, 18.5, 3/4", or 18 1/2". Inch fractions use the selected inch unit or an explicit inch suffix.
